A generic representation of a very light aircraft, small and slow enough to have only basic regulation in most countries. They are generally called microlight aircraft in the UK and New Zealand, and ULMs in France and Italy. Some countries differentiate between weight shift and 3-axis aircraft, calling the former microlight and the latter ultralight.
Stats for both weight-shift aircraft (effectively hang-gliders with an engine for self-launching) and 3-axis aircraft (effectively very small aeroplanes) are given below.
