Large groups: If your group is larger then what you consider optimal try instituting this rule. Set up a queue of one or two players. If a character dies the character's player goes to the end of the queue, when the queue is full the player who has been in the queue the longest comes back in with his or her new character and anyone else in the que moves up one place. This way the players have an incentive to keep their character alive and the group stays manageable (combat takes less time, more room at the table etc...)
